Snowflake Database Engineer

What you’ll be doing:

We are looking for a Snowflake Database Engineer eager to undertake Snowflake administration, development and operational duties, including alerting, automation and integration of Snowflake services with Sony services hosted within AWS Cloud Infrastructure.  

The Snowflake Database Engineer is required to work within the Operations team with the successful applicant responsible for the operations and support of the Business Intelligence platform. They will be required to fit into a highly skilled team and work with limited supervision, under their own initiative. 

Based in our London offices, the team provides business intelligence services for various global business units associated with Sony Interactive Entertainment. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot Snowflake database errors.
  • Actively work with Snowflake support for raising support tickets and triaging outages.
  • Implement/support automation for production deployment in Snowflake
  • Develop, build & maintain data platform using Snowflake.
  • Implement Snowflake user /query log analysis and alerts.
  • Work with heterogeneous user groups from data engineers to data scientists.
  • Implement data encryption/decryption/masking policies to protect PII/PCI data
  • Analyse and translate Query Profiles and use EXPLAIN to spot performance issues
  • Experience in tuning complex queries and Virtual Warehouse workload optimisation
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining Snowflake Secure Data Shares
  • Respond against user enquiries
  • Provision user and systems access
  • Be able to present new features/product offerings to the wider organisation”
  • User security auditing
  • Create Snowflake utilization and capacity plans
  • Provide technical leadership, fosters a team environment, and provides mentorship and feedback to technical resources.
  • Should be able to review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project
  • Cover responsibilities on rotational basis for Snowflake database administration during Christmas and other key projects/Holidays.
  • Provide release management support for databases and related applications
  • Data schema management
  • Input to Snowflake Roadmap
  • Managing Snowflake Access Control Framework (DAC and RBAC)

What we are looking for:

  • Should have minimum 3 years relevant experience with Snowflake ideally operating within a DBA capacity.
  • Experience Administrating databases in large enterprise environment
  • Scripting using a Posix shell such as Bash, or experience using Python. 
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix 
  • Knowledge of AWS environment 
  • Knowledge of JIRA and agile working practices
  • Knowledge of Postgres and MySQL (optional)
  • SnowPro Certified (optional; advantageous)
