Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (“SIE”) has an opening at its European headquarters in London for a Legal Director, Privacy, EMEA to lead its EMEA Privacy legal team. This role is essential to empowering the SIE business to deliver the best entertainment experience to our customers while mitigating privacy risks and earning trust by how we transparently and responsibly use data.

We are offering the opportunity to

Play a key role in developing and driving privacy and data law strategy into an international and market-leading business in video games, digital entertainment, and technology;

Work on pioneering technologies such as interactive entertainment, content streaming, and virtual reality; and

Counsel product teams on the development of the PlayStation®Network (including its social network, music, movie, game streaming, and other elements), a platform of over 100 million users worldwide.

What you’ll be doing

Lead the privacy legal function for SIE in EMEA, and lead, develop and manage the EMEA privacy legal team. Collaborate with the SIE business, internal stakeholders and legal specialists to solve challenging privacy and data issues while providing exceptional entertainment experiences to our customers.

Review business activities that collect, use, share, or dispose of data for compliance with law, policy, and best practices.

Advise on all aspects of privacy laws and regulations, including data protection, data security and data breach rules.

Represent SIE in interfacing with and influencing privacy regulators and policymakers.

Draft consumer notices, agreements and contract terms, and negotiate data- and privacy-related contract provisions.

Develop standardised policies, tools and processes, and implement them (in conjunction with Information Security, Data Governance, and other stakeholders) into operations to mitigate data processing legal risks and help the business scale.

Develop and maintain expertise in privacy and data law.

Develop and lead trainings for the business.

What we are looking for

An experienced attorney who meets the following requirements:

Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent international degree.

Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

10+ years’ experience as a practising attorney OR equivalent practice of law.

Privacy and Information Security law (Records Retention, Data Deletion or Destruction, Wiretapping/Monitoring, or Data Transfer law would also be useful).

Experience with European and UK privacy law.

Familiarity with social privacy issues (friends, family, identity), the characteristics of data/information and its lifecycle, and data governance.

Excellent collaboration skills, communication skills, and attention to detail.

Product counselling experience, preferably with respect to IP, privacy or technology.

Intellectually fascinated by the legal and policy issues emerging from information science and technology developments.

Enjoy getting your hands dirty to solve complex data challenges.

Consider implementation as important as ideation, and measure your success by how well you enabled a superior customer experience while effectively mitigating risk.

Capability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequently changing workload and business imperatives.

The ability to build relationships and consensus amongst cross-functional and cross-level teams, and to drive initiatives to conclusion.

International privacy and business work experience, and CIPP/E and CIPP/US certifications.

Passionate about gaming and new technology.

Desire and ability to work as part of a diverse and inclusive team, bringing the applicant’s unique lived experiences.
