The Environment Surfacing Lead will be leading a team of surfacing artists in one project to ensure the quality and deadlines are met.  The right candidate will be responsible for briefing the team, communicating notes and implement the look of the show in the department, being the link between the Supervisor and the team. 


    • Takes and receive direction from the Supervisor and providing feedback for the team and reviewing artist’s work
    • Is an expert on all things relating to surfacing, texturing, and optimizing Assets 
    • Works with the Director and Supervisor to elevate the quality to the next level 
    • Evaluates the surfacing artists’ work first, making sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction. 
    • Provides shading support to the Lighting and FX teams throughout production. 
    • Shows a proactive approach to learning new skills and tools. 
    • Acts as the link between input and output departments (Modeling, Rigging, Lighting, Compositing). 
    • Proposes solutions to technical problems, defining the best ways to proceed. 
    • Keeps up on current technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the production (and the company) in the development of a stronger creative technical environment. 


    • 6+ years of professional experience in VFX or animation industries
    • At least 1 year of experience as Lead
    • Extensive experience with Houdini, Mari, Maya, Substance Designer & Painter, Arnold render.
    • Possesses deep knowledge of creating UVs
    • Knowledge of skinning, rigging, technical constraints and optimization
    • Knowledge of hard surface modeling
    • Ability to create, adapt, and iterate, within a variety of artistic styles.
    • Ability to properly research and work independently in absence of concept art
    • Experience with traditional drawing and/or painting a plus.
    • High English level desirable
    • Spanish is desirable
